Is your child experiencing a lot of dental pain due to an accident or severe toothache? If so, take a breath, grab your phone, and give OPD Smiles a call right away. Our team is happy to accept emergency patients, and we’ll work to see your child as quickly as possible. We’re often able to provide same-day emergency care! You can trust us to take control of a stressful situation and provide the relief your child needs so you can both get back to your normal lives.
Dental Accidents & Facial Trauma

If your child has a broken, dislodged, or knocked out tooth, please take the following steps:
- Contact OPD Smiles as soon as you can.
- Try to recover any pieces of the tooth that you can, making sure to only touch them by the crown (top part) and not the root (bottom part).
- Have your child gently rinse their mouth with warm water.
- Rinse the tooth with warm water as well, but don’t disturb any tissue that is still on the root.
- Try to place the tooth back into your child’s mouth until you can see us. If this isn’t possible, put it in a container of milk or saltwater. It must remain wet to keep it viable for reattachment!
- A cold compress or OTC medicine can help manage any pain or swelling.
- Use a clean rag or piece of gauze to control any bleeding.
Dental Emergencies Due to Oral Care Neglect

Is your child in pain because of a toothache? Here is what you should do until you’re able to come see us:
- Have your child gently rinse their mouth with warm water.
- Look at their tooth to see if anything is stuck next to it. If so, use floss to try and remove it, but use a light touch.
- If this isn’t the case, your child can use a cold compress or OTC medication to help with any pain.
